the artist
"I will not reason or compare, my business is to create." -William Blake
Kayla Coulter is a visual artist, the founder of The Artistic Edge (a mobile art education initiative) based in Illinois, the Student Gallery Assistant Coordinator at Lauren A. Sprague Gallery, and an instructor at the School of Art at Water Street Studios. Working primarily in graphite, charcoal, and acrylic, she is currently studying hyper-realism with surreal undertones, pushing the boundaries of detail and precision in her practice. Her current works explore mental health and resilience, using highly detailed imagery to spark dialogue and reflection. Additionally, she continues to experiment with various techniques and mediums.
Alongside her studio practice, Coulter teaches workshops, hosts community events, and creates commissioned pieces-all grounded in her mission to make art accessible and empowering for others. Through her practice, she offers both skill and care, creating a space where art becomes not only a craft of observation but also a tool for connection and healing.
I look forward to creating with you. --K
